Sharktivity #9: Whale Shark steals the show
The Whale Shark ((Rhincodon typus) stole the show from the whales, you guys! Get the subtle depth in this drawing? Yeah, I do stuff like that. That puppet is supposed to be a longsnout dogfish (Deania quadrispinosa). Why didn't I choose a sawshark, you ask? Well, this fella doesn't lie that much.

Ghost net busters!
India's first Dive Expo is happening in Pondicherry and Temple adventures asked me if I could do some awareness posters for some of the issues they face.
This is the first of them. Ghost nets are real. Many sea creatures get entrapped and die because of these.

Selfie adventures
I have not taken a single successful selfie till date. Perhaps with a selfie stick (or as I like to call it - an 'I-pod'). I am fascinated by how far the selfie has taken over the world though. They are almost worth a series of comics.

Bigger fish? For how long?
"There's always a bigger fish." - Qui Gon Jinn, The Phantom Menace
Well, not if you kill off the biggest fish there is, right?
The Whale Shark has just gone from "Vulnerable" to "Endangered" in IUCN's list. How could we let this happen - and to the gentlest of giants?

Join The Shark Side!
Everyone's getting excited about the upcoming Star Wars movie. I loved the first three, no, last three... (well, you know which ones I mean). I haven't watched the clone wars - would I need to watch those before the next movie comes out?
Anyway, I wanted to do a Star Wars drawing but was a bit intimidated because I didn't think I would be able to sharkify (or sharkize) the characters. But I tried it and I'm quite happy with the result.
Just to clarify, I'm not telling people to join the "dark side" through a pun. I think The Shark Side is the side where everyone joins fins to save sharks (and other creatures).

Whale. Shark. Whale Shark.
This is for 'International Whale Shark Day'. I posted a couple of old whale shark ones and wanted to do a new one. I ended up drawing two and this is the first one I finished colouring. I couldn't decided which whale I wanted to draw in this but since killer whales are probably my favourite "whales" I chose them. I apologise because technically they're classified as "dolphins". It would have made more sense if I'd used one of those harmless whales.
I was also thinking that it would be nice if every day was an International Day for a different shark species. You know, each day gets its own shark. How special would that be?
ps - In case you didn't know, whale sharks are sharks. They are fish and whales are mammals.

Sea Scapes: Ocean Harmony
My sister asked me to paint her an "underwater" scene for her house. She gave me this rough doodle to describe what she wanted.
After much prayer that my sea creatures turn out alright, this here is my finished drawing.
I didn't add the "sea unicorns". I thought I'd save those for a less surreal drawing.

Lunch atop a Skyscraper with The Sharks
The first time I came across the famous "Lunch atop a skyscraper" photo was in university when my friend had it in her room. Since then I had seen the Friends cast, Muppets, Hollywood leading men and other versions. So I asked myself, why not a 'Sharks' version?

International Whale Shark Day!
The Wildlife Trust of India told me about International Whale Shark day (August 30th) and asked if I could do a couple of sketches for them. They have a Whale shark conservation project in Gujarat (I need to go check it out someday) and I did these as part of a "Whale Sharks in Gujarat" idea.

Sharks - we transport prophets better!
My old Reader's Digest book on Sharks had this bit under chapters on history/myth and I remembered it all of a sudden. I have nothing against whales - they're quite nice, especially orcas. But they're not sharks ;) (And not just in the animal classification way).
