Stick to slapstick!
I did wonder what it is we mean when we refer to someone having a good sense of humour. In my case, I'd like them to make me laugh. And if they don't laugh at my jokes, I will have to resort to slapstick.

The hammer-wielding god of blunder
This cracked me up even before I started drawing it. The Shark as Thor wielding a hammerhead? Talk about god of blunder!

Psycho Squirrels attack Shark.
I know what you're thinking - "Red pandas are not squirrels". Well, FYI, that's supposed to be a Giant Indian Squirrel or Malabar squirrel. They're really cute in reality and I doubt they'd attack sharks like that. I couldn't however say the same for the regular squirrel/chipmunk. They're nasty little creatures.
I've seen a Flying Squirrel but not in flight. And I've only seen them at night (meaning, I've only seen their eyes). So for all I know, they're probably just bats with geeky teeth.

Apex Breacher
This is an updated version of the breaching strip I did a while ago. The first time I heard and saw anything about Great white sharks breaching was on a Chris Fallows documentary on Discovery channel. Needless to say, I was in awe. His photos became quite iconic and it's my dream to go on one of his expeditions someday.

Sharks have always been cool!
I know of a website that would love the idea of a hipster being smacked by a shark.
Everyone was putting up "Shark Week" stuff and I wanted to join in even though Discovery Channel India isn't airing "Shark Week" here. The great thing about "Shark Week" is that you can celebrate it no matter where you live and regardless of whether Discovery Channel airs it or not.
I should do "Hipster loves sharks" t-shirts and put them up for sale soon.

Shark vs. Penguin
Penguins have comic potential, don't they? They could almost be as good as squirrels. This is just a random comic... no point or purpose.

Air Jaws? Not so much.
Here's another sharkish one. It was just a rough doodle that I'd done - it was probably funnier in my head but slapstick is always welcome. White shark breaching is amazing to watch - if you've never watched the "Air Jaws" video, try and watch some of the shark breaching videos on youtube. This was what put South Africa on top of the list of places to see. I mean, who'd want to watch some trained sissy dolphins jump through hoops after this?

Everybody wants to be an Emo cat
Emo cats have been known to randomly spring up and do dance numbers on fences. Therefore, the second panel makes total sense. These ideas come to me at that point between sleep and awake - luckily I can now jot them down on my ipod and not lose such fabulous thoughts. I wonder what Steve Jobs used to make a note of his ipod idea (This is not really a Steve Jobs tribute, by the way - I am very grateful for my ipod though).
It is, in fact, a birthday wish to the bestest Emo cat inspiration.

So much for "Survival of the fittest".
This story was inspired by two interesting house guests I had earlier this month. One of them apparently had her lip blown up by a cockroach and in my head this was how the picture formed. The image of a cockroach trying to blow up a shark is hilarious especially since they're both creatures that existed since before the dinosaurs.
I actually don't know which has been around the longest - the shark or the cockroach. Apparently there's even an unanswered question on wikianswers!
I like how my cockroach turned out - especially the "yee-ess" response in the 2nd panel.

Happy Shark Week... anyway!
Pardon me for being a teeny tiny bit bitter during Shark Week but it's justifiable considering that Shark week didn't even air on our Discovery Channel! We actually have "telebrands" for an hour on Discovery channel - to help us further discover how stupid and annoying humans can be.
I was meaning to do a post around Shark Week all year and then the lack of inspiration led to this.

So much for being punch proof!
There are actually two porcupine-ish characters in my cartoons - each inspired by a different friend. This one is for a friend whose birthday it was yesterday. Actually, I drew it this morning but dated it as yesterday (In my defense, I had the idea last night). You know, I needn't have even revealed this information and let you think I'd actually drawn it on time for someone's birthday. It's because of personality flaws such as this that I wouldn't make a good politician.
The friend involved has this weird notion that I used to beat them up when we were younger. I have no idea what that's about... that doesn't sound even remotely like me!

Tribute #11: The Bunny Suicides
This is my tribute to the "Bunny Suicides" by Andy Riley. While suicide is an awful topic, his comics are simply brilliant. Because, you know, they're bunnies. It probably wouldn't really happen.
I think he did do one with a shark. But my version is extra special.

If I'm ever that cheerful, please do smack me.
I thought it had been a while since annoyingly-happy bear had gotten smacked. And since we were on a roll with this topic, I thought meh, why not?

A day AT the beach, not ON it.
It's true. I dislike the beach. Water is good, sand is bad.
Serious side note reminded by the animal rights reference: It's good that we have organisations that fight against animal abuse but I hope that everyone fights against abuse in any form and that nothing is given a greater priority than
ps - The original script mentioned a particular organisation but I decided to change it as I didn't agree with some of their publicity views after reading an article on a Melinda's website.

You had me at first punch.
I was supposed to post this at least a month ago when I got back from my awesome Australian holiday. I had high hopes on being on time. I love Wallabies and Pademelons and Quolls and every other creature I saw in the wilderness. I did not, however, see sharks in the wild whilst snorkeling - although I saw plenty of those silly coloured fish that I had to keep shooing away. I would probably need to go back and spend days on a boat or under water and pray that I get lucky. But I did get to see some reef sharks and nurse ones (not so cute) in the Aquariums. They. Were. Amazing.

The fin has better uses than soup!
In case you were wondering, that creature being smacked is a chihuahua. Notice how you can't tell if it's a rat or a dog?
Anyway, it's quite sad how sharks have their fins cut off and then thrown back into the ocean. Is shark fin soup really that awesome? It's not like we have shark farms with a gazillion sharks to use for food. Sharks are friends not food, remember? (let me know if you're going to argue that the saying is actually "Fish are friends not food".)
Stop shark finning site. I'm not affiliated to them or anything but I've liked sharks for a long time and was horrified the first time I heard about shark fin soup about a decade ago.
Splash goes the conscience
These sorts of things happen at my house a lot. I'm surrounded by so much inspiration that I take it for granted.

Good things come to those who don't wait
We have one of those exercise ball things in our house. It's become part of the furniture - we use it mostly for sitting. And that's all. I think it would be great if we simply bounced up and down on these and got fit.
Anyway, this particular scene happened frame for frame at a dinner party. One friend was sitting on my bouncy ball chair (okay fine, my sister's bouncy ball chair) and another friend mentioned that she was waiting to see if she'd fall off. I said that sometimes we mustn't wait to have good things happen to us. And I pushed the ball. I did get beaten up. I couldn't believe how strong my friend is. I guess those bouncy exercise balls really do work!
I've always liked horses and was wondering if I should ever have a horse character. In no way do I mean that my friend is horse-ish or horsey faced.
ps - If you're wondering why the human is like a half complete bust, it's because I got bored and couldn't be bothered to finish.

Love and other icky things
If one wants to see what Valentine's day is all about, you just need to go to any place that sells cards and other ridiculous things like stuffed white bears holding hearts and flowers. I went to Landmark the day before and as always the silly jewelry counter guy asked me if I wanted to buy diamonds. I was already annoyed that they don't sell recycled paper (but very craftily label them all as "Recyclable" and have the recycle symbol) and I almost stopped and asked why on Earth would I buy diamonds from a bookstore. I mean, what kind of book-hating bookstore would diversify into jewelry and cosmetics (this attracts hoards of people who don't read) ? I also wanted to tell him that it being Valentine's day, he should be asking all the guys if they wanted to buy diamonds. If I didn't hate talking to people so much, I'd be a great salesperson.
You'll notice how I very cleverly did not answer any of the questions.
Also, if there is a bunny in any of my strips, it will almost inevitably get whacked. This reminded me of a funny post my friend had put up which had a bit about rabbits which led to me coming up with these rabbit cooking instructions:
1. Cut off and use tail to brush off any extra dirt.
2. Dip bunnies in veet hair removal cream to get rid of their stupid bunny fur.
3. Wash thoroughly.
4. Chop off ears - can be fried and served as chips.
5. Stuff bunnies with required stuffing (carrots and other silly stuff) and roast and toss into stew.
Title credit goes to my friend Dumpsy.

Apparently I cannot boil an egg
It's a standing joke in my family that I'm lousy at keeping house and so they find it hard to believe that I could be a somewhat decent hostess. I had a friend of mine staying over once while my mom was also staying with me and using my most nonchalant, casual, everyday-use voice I asked my friend what she would like for breakfast. You know, since the options at my house are as varied at the brunch at the Taj. And she thought she would make my life easy by asking for what she assumed was the easiest - a boiled egg. Now, I've never boiled an egg in my life - mostly because I don't like the yolk in a separated form. My mother knows this but instead of being a good parent and offering to save my reputation, she stands there making conversation with my friend with the biggest grin/smirk on her face. So I'm like "Um, how many minutes should I boil it for?" and my friend says "4 minutes". How am I supposed to know it should be on the stove for 4 minutes after the water begins to boil? I just put it on the stove for 4 minutes and very nicely presented it to her. My mum, very innocently asks why I'm not serving it on an egg holder, fully aware of the fact that I don't own an egg holder because I. Don't. Boil. Eggs.
My mother watches with utmost interest and curiosity as my friend breaks open the egg only to find it all gross and gooey. It's not my fault that eggs don't come with instructions or that people did not stay satisfied with scrambled eggs and simply had to go and invent the boiled egg. And in my family, they like replaying such stories and asking me if I've boiled any eggs for guests lately.
