Frilly Grandpa shark

The Frilled Shark is considered by many to be a living fossil - it looks like it should be extinct and acts like it should be extinct but it's not! Because sharks are resilient that way.  Although, they just might do doo do do do doo this song to death.

A Shark Lover's Life

Don't get me wrong - I love it when people tag me in or send me shark videos and pictures. I do feel like I've reached some sort of life goal when that happens. For those of you who don't know Phil Watson, check out Shaaark!
I only realised after I drew the Fox that Pink Fong's Baby Shark version has a fox as their mascot. I first heard the Baby Shark song at a camp about 15 years ago. It was just as cool then as it is now. I still get asked why sharks every now and then. I'm working on the perfect response.

All I want for Christmas is something to want!

This is an updated version of an old Christmas sketch. What do you get a Shark that has it all?

Also, it's Christmas. Hug a seal.

Someone said that seal looks like Chewbacca and hence it's a chewy cookie. I love that.

Resolutions and solutions

I put off making resolutions for New Year until perhaps a week or two after the initial feeling of obligation to do such things passes. Even then, I'm hoping to simply create new habits for the year. Like being less cynical, make a lot more drawings and do some new activity. Well, good luck to me!

The Shark Ages

A while ago I wanted to rename this comic strip to "The Shark Ages" and announce the change with this strip. But several people said they actually like the title "Oh, Dakuwaqa!" so I guess I'll leave it that way for now. Besides, The Shark dressed in armor for no reason is funnier.

I'm gonna go hang out with Cristina Zenato instead.

I've wanted to do a tribute to Cristina Zenato ever since I saw this video. She's amazing - I would love to do one of her shark diving courses one day.

When I see a shark fly

This little Dumbo-dig at the Oceanic whitetip has nothing to do with the earlier strip. The shark isn't at all upset that the stripey fish don't want to hang out with it.
Oceanic whitetip sharks are pretty awesome. They have these special (aka "conspicuously larger an rounded") fins and they look rather cool swimming about with their groupies. Sadly, they have been the victims of over-fishing because some people think cool fins = tasty fins. The possibility that those fins are to help the shark fly higher never crosses their mind.

Thankfully, CITES delegates voted for their protection this year.

Facebook must be wrong. Everyone loves me!

Strangely enough (I'd drafted this comic several weeks ago), my post yesterday only got about half a dozen likes but Facebook claims that about 200 people viewed it. It must be because I posted a link instead of the full picture. No one seems to like moving from one page to another anymore. It's one of the more difficult chores of the new century. Lazy humans.
My original comic didn't include the last panel. I wasn't sure about adding it but then I thought it would be fun to get a bit dramatic.

Crazy Shark Lady

This is probably the most elaborate sketch I've done so far. I've never spent this much energy or time on backgrounds before. It was hard. Harder still was having my sister pick on all the imperfections and making me correct/change things.
I'm not sure if all the details will be visible here so I'll put up a bigger image on the Facebook page. See if y'all can find all the shark related items in the room! Some items are imaginary (aka "I hope they make these), some are real and I'd love to be able to afford them (like Victor Douieb's sculptures) and others are stuff that I probably want/have. :)

I want a shark scooter!

My sister mentioned that every time she sees a hammerhead shark, she feels like holding on to the head and play water scooter. I doubt that the shark would find that very amusing.

Everything? Like, forever.

Well, "gross" does also mean "total", "whole" and "entire".
We're a needy race. We always have one craving or another and there are tons of things the world has to offer that can satisfy the need for a moment or two. Then we overdo it and those things suffocate us. It just gets way more emotional when people use other people to fill up the emptiness. Eventually someone smothers someone or the one finds that the other isn't enough (because on top of being needy we also can become quite discontent quickly). It does make one rather cynical when one expects fulfillment from other humans, doesn't it? Even sharks have no use for them because they apparently taste bad.
However, in the grand scheme of things, we probably will see that we must do our best for each other and help those who are down look up rather than look to us. Otherwise, you may end up with a stalker.

Beef and Mr.Potato Heads

Again, sharks are NOT mindless eating machines. :D
I had this script in my mind a couple of weeks ago and drew out all the characters but didn't add the text until recently. I found that I'd drawn one panel for which I simply couldn't remember what my intended text was. It was so annoying... I never learn that when I think I will remember something, I usually don't.
I'll probably put that panel up anyway and have you all fill in the conversation.

Mindless eating machine

I think I was craving burgers when I drew this. Or at least I was craving them after. It's a random sketch but I like it.
This is another notion about sharks that people simply have - that they'll eat anything. I think it's all those film snippets showing sharks cut open and finding license plates, shoes etc inside their stomach. I've heard they're pretty fussy eaters. They'd probably like burgers though.

Follow me and I'll make you a fish among men

I probably should stop talking.

ps - I just noticed that I seem to have done quite a lot of strips with laptop/internet themes. I really need a life.

To do: Make Bucket list

Here's one that I drew about a month ago and then got too busy to do put it up. It may be cheesy and stupid but I still find the "to-do list" vs "bucket list" idea chuckle-worthy. I should probably do an actual bucket list one sometime.

The tranquility of nature

This would have made a nice video clip. You need to imagine the awesome backdrop of the mountains (since I can't be bothered to draw them that well) and the serene atmosphere and then the burst of chaos.
I love nature, especially the mountains but moths and other flying insects make them seem like horror movie sets. Leeches are alright as long as you don't see them. (It's quite interesting to see what happens when you sprinkle salt on them).
Anyway, the shark wasn't supposed to sit on the squirrel but on one side of the human while the squirrel sat on the other. Then I absent-mindedly drew the squirrel where I intended the shark to be and then was too lazy to change it. My humour is sometimes accidental.

Don't steal my tombstone designs!

I quite like the tombstone designs I've done. Very creative, I must say.
I also confess that I am quite morbid in this way. I love cemeteries and reading things people have inscribed on graves.

Voting day!

Today was voting day and I did my duty. Well, thanks to the hard earned freedom to ruin our country by our own hands, our choices are sometimes restricted to a sort-of good party represented by a not-so-reliable candidate or a party with lousy values represented by a good guy. How do we handle it? well, there's indifference towards voting, settling for voting for the "lesser of two evils" or doing either of those and then smash things around when things don't go your way. Hopefully someday we'll get to the point of not tolerating a choice between useless candidates/parties, not rioting and making voting something that every citizen feels is not pointless.
