Remoras, Pilots and Copepods

It's good to be back. I've always enjoyed cartoons that help you put your tiny problems in perspective while also teaching you wonderful lessons about life and the world. For those of you don't know the companions to the sharks, we have:
Pilot Fish:
While these fish do prefer Oceanic whitetip sharks, I had to choose between a sucker fish on The Shark vs being followed by a striped fish and I think the latter appealed more. Here's a bit more information on pilot fish.
Remora:
These unique fish have a suction cup on top of their heads which helps them to attach themselves to sharks and other creatures. This way they can eat scraps around their host and clean their host's skin too.
Which brings us to why the Greenland shark is annoyed. There's a tiny little parasite, a copepod (Ommatokoita elongata) that attaches itself to the EYE of these sharks!
So, when one considers all that they have to complain about for the day, do remember that at least you don't have a copepod hanging from your eye. If you do, I suggest you try and make friends since you're going to be together for a long time.

Swordfish Delivery Service!

A thought I was playing around with. I remember as kids most cartoons showed babies being delivered by storks. There aren't storks in the sea but there are swordfish!
I'm not announcing a baby, FYI.

Skate-boarding!

I bet this is what Sharks and Skates do when we aren't looking.
I'd done a "Skate boarder" for inktober last year and this is a follow-up to that one.

Look Deeper #2: Hotdogfish?

I don't think they put dogfish in hotdogs but they certainly are consumed in other forms. These sweet sharks (especially the spiny dogfish) are in extreme danger of extinction because people sell these as fish and chips, rock salmon and such. Please know what it is exactly that you are buying. Sharks are not even good for you. It's less good for the shark.

Happy World Oceans Day 2015!

I hadn't read the theme for this year's World Oceans Day (Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet) when I started drawing this. It ended up to be quite fitting. I wanted to draw the alternative scenario of a despondent ocean but for now, I'll leave us with happy thoughts. It's a colourful, mysterious, beautiful world down there and we seem to take it for granted and assume we have the right to control or trespass or violate it as we wish. Respect the Oceans and allow all the creatures to play their roles in nature. Not just today but everyday.
Happy Oceans, Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet, Happy Planet.

ps - The Manatee is playing a guitarfish, okay?

Sea Scapes: Ocean Harmony

My sister asked me to paint her an "underwater" scene for her house. She gave me this rough doodle to describe what she wanted.

After much prayer that my sea creatures turn out alright, this here is my finished drawing.

I didn't add the "sea unicorns". I thought I'd save those for a less surreal drawing.

Fisher of fish

Those Oceanic whitetips are always surrounded by those striped fish! They must be pretty cool. The rest of my annoyance speaks for itself.

Monster pet goldfish

This comic would work on its own - I thought it would be a nice follow up to the wanting a pet wolf one. I don't think I'd ever stick my finger into a fish bowl even if it contained just goldfish. I'm certain that they like finger food.

Can I atleast pretend to fish?

I used to really enjoy fishing. I'd still like to but I don't eat fish and I don't have a cat I can feed them to so it seems kind of pointless.

Want to see my fish?

After I watched "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective", I wanted to have one of those giant tanks with a Great White Shark. You know, so that I could take any annoying visitors and show them my fish.

ps - I've replaced the original sketch with a slightly updated and improved version.
